CBD Can Help Relieve Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomitting

Cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy often undergo trying periods of nausea and vomiting, which are all side effects of the procedure. Nevertheless, chemotherapy remains on the most effective treatments for cancer due to its effectiveness.

However, chemotherapy does a whole lot more do a human body than just treat cancerous cells. Unfortunately, chemo kills healthy cells too. Consequently, the body undergoes tremendous punishment which causes a number of side effects.

Often, many chemo patients don’t respond to traditional synthetic chemo side effects treatments. Instead, they testify to feeling delusional, drugged and lethargic. CBD has shown extraordinary resilience and effectiveness in treating CINV. Scientists in 1985 undertook well over 30 clinical trials on newly discovered nabilone and dronabinol, which concluded that CBD was superior at the treatment of CBD. The Machinations behind CBD effectiveness on CINV

CBD is part of the body’s endocannabinoid system. In fact, a healthy human body often manufactures plenty of naturally occurring CBD. Until recently, scientists had not discovered the endocannabinoid system. Perhaps, the endocannabinoid system is the single most functional element of a human body in the sense that it controls basic functions of a body like sleeping, appetite, resting, immune system, etc.

CBD binds to receptors called CB1 and CB2. Receptors detect stimuli or environmental changes to induce a certain reaction from the body. These reactions are reflex in nature involving electrical impulses in the nervous system and bypass the brain. Some of the well-known receptors concentrate on sense organs like eyes, skin, tongue, ears, etc.

Other endocannabinoid system receptors line up along the emetic reflex system, a direct target for CBD compounds found in cannabis. What ensues is a complex series of chemical and electrical pulses process that ends up in producing anti-emetic responses, a key process in combating CINV.

What is the way forward?

Of course, scientists keep making more discoveries, but CBD amongst all elements has proved to be a mild compound with the non-psychoactive characteristic. Even with such groundbreaking discoveries, unfortunately, naturally occurring cannabis does form part of universally accepted clinical guidelines for Oncology.

For as long as medical marijuana still remains illegal at the federal government level, scientist remains somewhat reluctant to sign up more clinical trials. The remaining recourse is for CINV patients to seek treatment from states that have allowed medical cannabis.
